Match Report
SOUTH EAST ATHLETIC 5 - 0 HIGHFIELD ROVERS
SEA came into this match intent on keeping the good form going! Manager Danny Allens team selection was set up in a 4-3-3 formation but had to be changed late on with the late withdrawel of Gary Draper. The player to come into the team at the last moment was Ryan Boyle for his first start for SEA and he was to take his chance. The Team went back to 4-4-2 with Ryan coming in at right wing. The Team set up with Kev in goal, Captain Neal Egan, Dan Hollis, Chris Conneally and Padraig Biggane at the back. The midfield four were Ryan, Dan Conneally, Fran and Eden Cummins and Kieran and Darren up front.
Manager Danny Allen was keen to get the SEA Team off to a good start in the Premier League and this was a game SEA needed to win. SEA started well, chances were soon to arrive. Darren tested the keeper with a low shot. Kieran was sent clear by Dan Conneally only for the keeper to save! Another chance for Kieran and the keeper saved again. A quick corner from Fran was to set up Dan Conneally who finnished superbly with his left foot. It was the goal which got SEA going. The wingers Eden and Ryan were causing constant problems attacking the full backs. The second goal was soon to arrive as superb work from Darren and Eden set up Ryan who made sure slotting the ball home. More goals should have come before half time but great work from the Highfield keeper was to keep SEA from scoring a lot more. Half time arrived with SEA in control and Manager Danny Allen delighted with the SEA performance. More of the same is all Danny had to say and the Team were to step up their form. The second half started as the first had finnished. The SEA defence with new signing Chris Conneally who at this point looks like the signing of the season. Chris was in control along side Danny Hollis who has also stepped up his performance this season and looks like a future South East Captain. Neal Egan was also superb doing the unusual job as right back but also getting forward helping the SEA attack. Padraig Biggane after last weeks man of the match performance was again at his best attacking the Highfield full backs supporting Eden and Ryan at every attack. The midfield of Dan Conneally and Fran seem to get better each game and the strike force of Darren and Kieran are now providing a constant goal threat. A third goal was soon to arrive as Padraig hit a ball towards Kieran who with one touch played Ryan in on goal who smashed the ball into the roof of the net. A fine goal but a late tackle on Ryan was to end his day and Sean Murphy replaced him moving into left back. Padraig moving to left wing in a role he seems to also enjoy. Kieran was to have further chances again through on goal but the keeper saving and also a long shot as the keeper came off his line but the ball sailing wide. The fourth goal was to come as a free kick from Dan Conneally found Fran who headed accross goal. Kieran then headed towards goal and Darren flicked the ball with his head on to the bar, the ball was to come off the defender into the goal. Who was to get the goal!!! As Kieran and Darren claimed the goal. it was given to Darren but maybe we need Andy Gray and the Team at Sky Sports to confirm this. It didnt matter! the points were in the bag! Changes were made. George replacing Kieran and Matt Sirett replacing Dan Conneally. Neal moved into centre midfield with Matt Sirett in at right back. Eden moved up front with Darren and George Eldridge, making his first start for SEA. The Highfield defence were now run all over the place as South East's four attacking players, Padraig, Darren, George and Eden all under the age of 19 were to give SEA a new found energy. Another goal was to arrive as good work from Sean into Padraigs path who finnished into the bottom corner of the net. More goals should have arrived with Eden hitting a superb volley onto the bar and Neal Egan firing a superb shot by his standards which would have been a fantastic goal. it didnt arrive but SEA had scored five and maybe should have had double figures. The Man of the match went to Padraig but only after being run close by Ryan. The Squad looks in good nick with new players Matt Sirett, Chris Conneally Ryan and George making a big impact to increase competition in the SEA Squad.
Manager Danny Allen was delighted with the performance and the start to the season but made it CLEAR TO ALL PLAYERS THAT NO EXCUSES IN MISSING TRAINING. The fitness and workrate of the squad needs to get better and all players are expected at training this and every Wednesday with a Crunch game ahead against Homesdale next Saturday!
