Match Report
We played today for the second time this season against Poulton Youth and this time it was away at Cottam Hall.
It could of been a tricky fixture today as the pitch was very boggy and most notebly very small mainly being very narrow which could of made things difficult.
The lads made sure of no slip ups starting very brightly knocking the ball around well and creating chances and the Poulton keeper was forced into some early saves before we finally got our first of the game.
It came after the impressive Sam Warburtons solo run and strike was saved only to be followed up by Josh Clayton who notched his first of the game.
The second came staight from a Poulton goal kick that went straight to David Cartmell who's first time effort sailed into the top corner with a superb strike.
The third came not long after and was a product of a good offensive weapon today the long throw of Ellis Hancox.
He launched the ball into the box with great effect and after Poulton could not deal with it the ball landed to Chris Clinch who's low driven cross was met by Josh Clayton on the line to put home.
Poulton then had a couple of breakes and forced Sam Gorick into a couple of fine saves the best of which a diving stop at the feet of the Poulton forward.
Poulton did get there reward and pulled a goal back to make it 3-1.
Our fourth again came courtesy of an Ellis Hancox ( Rory Delap like ) long throw which was met in the air by Chris Clinch to head staight home for his first of the game and reward for making some good off the ball runs earlier in the game.
Goal number five came from the penalty spot after great work from Owen Futter (MOM) who beat a couple of men bursting into the box only to be hacked down right in view of the referee.
The penalty was never in doubt and dispatched neatly into the corner of the net by Ellis Hancox who was captain on the day making the scoreline 5-1 going into half time.
Into the second half we got our sixth and final goal of the game after about five minutes when Kit Gregory played a superb cross into the box and David Cartmell set up Chis Clinch who beat his man down the left flank and smashed his effort right into the corner beating the keeper at his near post.
Several chances went begging after that and we could not increase our lead. But the lads dug into today and battled hard for each other and got stuck in which was good to see and pleasing to watch.
Another fine save from Sam Gorick tipping the ball onto the post in the last five minutes kept the score at 6-1.
