V
YMCA (2) 2 - James Cowburn (7), Bradley Jones (10)
With the sun still shining, YMCA began the 2nd match as they ended the first taking the game to the home side from the start. Isaac Eastham, playing up front, was unlucky not to give us an early lead when his header from Charles Shaw's cross was just wide of the post. 2 minutes later the pressure told as James Cowburn superbly flicked home Liam Docherty's corner at the near post to give YM the lead. 2 minutes later, Cowburn threaded his way past 2 defenders on the edge of the box before setting up Bradley Jones to shoot powerfully to double YM's lead on 10 minutes. But this was a more resilient South Shore team and instead of letting their heads drop they fought their way back into the match and were rewarded with a well worked goal just 2 minutes from the break.
South Shore seemed to have the early momentum in the second half and Josh Moreau was soon called into action making a fine save to thwart the boys in red. The home side clearly fancied themselves to score and the equaliser came from a powerfully hit fee-kick from just outside the box in the 29th minute. YMCA had been under the cosh for more than 10 minutes but inspired by the strong running Charles Shaw on the wing, clawed themselves back into the game. The spectators were treated to some thrilling end to end football but it was YMCA who came closest to snatching the points in the closing minutes. First Bradley Jones and then at the death, Isaac Eastham were denied by the splendid South Shore goalkeeper. After another pulsating 40 minutes, the points were deservedly shared between these excellent sides.
Man Of The Match: Charles Shaw.
