20/21st FEBRUARY: 15s END NEIGHBOURS RECORD WITH
3rd March 2010
Even though we were into the third weekend in February it seemed that this winter would just never end. On a very foggy Saturday morning a heavy overnight frost caused all games in the PDP 7-A-Side League to be frozen off apart from one, and that was at Seafield. Our pitch was obviously very firm but because it was flat and even it posed no danger to the players and our Under 10 kept their title hopes very much alive by taking 4 points from their game against South Shore. We came out 3-1 winners of the A contest to earn 3 points and our other point came in a 3-3 draw in the B game which was a pulsating game. We led at first, then fell behind twice before we grabbed a late equaliser with Oscar O’Neil capping an outstanding display in the B game by bagging two of our goals. Following Saturday’s frost and fog we then woke up on the Sunday morning to a blanket of snow. Fortunately, it had melted by lunchtime but there were still some casualties as regards fixtures. We had to close Seafield for the day due to melting snow turning into water which sat on top of the frozen surface causing some water-logging and the three YMCA matches scheduled there all had to be postponed.
Not too far away though on a muddy pitch at Mythop Rd our 15s were taking on unbeaten Lytham Juniors and we fell behind after just 20 seconds. Despite us having most of the play the home side added another and we found ourselves 0-2 down at the break. It was a similar pattern in the 2nd half with our boys penning the home side back into their own half with non-stop attacking play. With 20 minutes remaining though we still trailed by two goals but the efforts of our boys were finally rewarded with three quick-fire goals to give us a stunning and thoroughly deserved 3-2 victory. In the Hogan Cup quarter finals our 12s had an excellent 2-0 away win at Kirkham, Callum Hendry scoring both our goals. Our 13s Hogan cup tie at South Shore fell victim to the weather.
