Key news and reports: WEEKEND 8/9th NOVEMBER
12s GO OUT OF COUNTY CUP
A torrential rain storm, with strong winds and thunder and lightening thrown in as well, arrived just before lunch-time on the Sunday and played havoc with the Blackpool Youth League fixtures causing two-thirds of their scheduled games being washed out. Our 18s were at Seafield in the morning playing Southport Trinity where conditions weren’t exactly brilliant at kick-off but the second half was played in the teeth of the storm making it extremely unpleasant for all concerned. The referee though, to his credit, allowed the game to continue and two goals from Nathan Ruddle helped us to finish up 3-0 winners, and I don’t think anybody was sorry to hear the final whistle.
Our 16s should have been at Seafield on the same pitch in the afternoon but too much damage had already been done so we closed the ground for the day. Not often that happens at Seafield. Our 12s were involved in a Lancs FA Cup 4th round tie against Poulton at Cottam Hall, hardly the place to be at an afternoon like that, and we went down 2-1, Connah Bishop our scorer with a brilliant strike, but that was the end of our team’s County Cup ambitions for this season. Both our Girls teams were away that day and despite the weather both managed to play their games. Laurel North netted twice for our 11s but were unlucky to be beaten 5-3 at Pendle Forest but our 14s romped to a resounding 13-1 victory at East Lancs outfit Westbury, Sasha Wozniac, Gabrielle Newell and Siobhan Fryer all hitting pairs.
It was dry on the Saturday morning but cold and windy and both our 9s and 10s dropped points. At Seafield against Wyre Juniors our 9s won the A game 2-1 and then were held to a 1-1 but we still stayed top of the table. Over at Preesall our 10s had to settle for a share of the points against Wyre. We lost the A game 3-1 before coming out 5-4 victors in a thrilling B contest, Ryan White and Dan Hood both netting twice.
