Key news and reports: WEEKEND 14/15 FEBRUARY 2009

11s END KIRKHAM'S UNBEATEN RECORD

It was a damp and overcast weekend but at least much milder and two weeks after clinching a place in the Lancs FA’s County Cup Final our 18s secured another cup final appearance by beating Penwortham Town in the semi-finals of the Preston LEP League’s Youth Cup. Scott Harries capped an outstanding display from midfield by bagging two of our goals. The best result of the day for our club though was claimed by our 11s in the Hogan Cup quarter finals. Our boys travelled to Coronation Rd to take on an unbeaten Kirkham side and even though there were games taking place at Seafield I decided to make the trip to Kirkham   for this one and what a good decision of mine this was. Our boys were brilliant and a with a 1st half spot kick by Sam Warburton plus a 2nd half strike from Chris Clinch we came away with a superb and fully deserved 2-0 victory. At Seafield our 12s went through to the semis as well with a 3-1 defeat of BJFF thanks to a hat trick by central defender James Rowley. In league action that day our 14s retained top-spot in the table with a 5-0 defeat of Fleetwood Town, Ryan Allan netted twice as did and Liam Whitehead from two spot-kicks. 9-GOAL JOYNER CARVES UP STAININGIn the PDP 7-A-Side League our 10s were at home to Staining where a hat trick by Ryan White helped us to a 5-0 A game win. In the B game Laurence Joyner was in devastating form and he bagged NINE goals in a 20-1 rout of the visitors. Eddie Nisbet weighed in with four goals and there were hat tricks from Ryan Faulkner and Joe Seear. Our 11s girls were not only missing three players for their trip to Fleetwood Town but two others failed to finish the game after picking up injuries during the contest. A day to forget I think as we went down 6-3 but our Open Age Ladies came away from Burnley with an excellent 3-2 win. We were 3-0 up at half time then had to dig-in in the 2nd half as the home side launched a spirited revival and pulled two goals back but we hung on for a hard earned victory.
