Key news and reports: WEEKEND 10/11 OCTOBER 2009
VICTORIES FOR ALL FOUR SUNDAY YOUTH LEAGUE TEAMS
This was another fine autumn weekend, the odd shower and a blustery wind but mainly sunny. What more could we ask for in mid-October? It was also a pretty good weekend as far as the YMCA was concerned. All four of our Sunday Youth League teams chalked up victories, our Saturday morning 7-a-side teams also did well as did our female teams also.
YMCA’s defences were not in charitable moods on the Sunday afternoon at Seafield as our 12s eventually overcame Fleetwood Town 3-0 after a goalless 1st half whilst our 15s were overcoming Foxhall 6-0, Ryan Riley bagging two of our goals. At Clifton Rangers our 11s notched up a 6-2 victory with Kai Leyland hitting a hat trick and Ryan White a pair. Our 13s were pushed all the way in maintaining their 100% record at Warton Typhoons where we came away with a slender 2-1 victory with strikes by James Rowley and Aiden Atchison. On the Sunday morning our 15s Girls had a thrilling 3-3 draw against Mersey Girls at Seafield. We were 0-2 down at half time then we went 3-2 ahead before the visitors snatched a late equaliser, but a great game to watch though. Our 12s Girls notched up an excellent 7-2 victory at Euxton, Georgia Rose weighing in with a hat trick with Erin Menzies netting twice. Our 10s Girls though went down 6-1 at Fleetwood Town, Leah Macaulay claiming our consolation. 7-A-SIDEOn the Saturday morning our 10s knocked South Shore off the top of the league at Palatine School. We recorded an excellent 4-1 victory in the A game, Harry Fisher scoring twice, and then we took a 2-0 lead in the B game but Shore bounced back to snatch a 2-2 draw but these four points put us 2nd in the table with Shore dropping down to 3rd which left Foxhall as clear leaders. At Seafield our 9s collected their first 6-point haul of the season with two wins over Shore. A double strike by the impressive Alex Price helped us to a 2-0 A game win and then two goals from Reece Cowell in the B contest was the feature of a 3-1 victory.
