Key news and reports: TRAGEDY

UNDER 8 PLAYER DIES

Our club has been stunned by the death in tragic circumstances on Friday 5th June of one of its young players Joshua Aldred who was one of our Under 8 goalkeepers on  He was discovered in his bedroom by his grandma that morning apparently hanged by his school tie and he was pronounced dead an hour later in hospital.  Joshua's mother Sarah died 3 months earlier and his grandad also passed away a year ago, both from cancer, and it seems that this little lad never really got over these awful personal losses. He attended our club's Presentation Evening just a few weeks earlier. The LSA YMCA Football Club conveys it deepest sympathies to Joshua's father Jason and all his relatives and close friends. I doubt that anybody could possibly imagine the devastation Jason must be feeling at the moment after the death of his wife and only child in the space of just 3 months and all our thoughts are with him at this most difficult time. YMCA Under 8s were supposed to take part in Fleetwood Town's tournament this weekend but managers Ron Evans and Duncan Cowburn withdrew the team from the competition as a mark of respect for Joshua's family.

This followed the passing away of Sue Drury just a couple of weeks ago after a long illness. Sue's husband Keith has been involved with our club for the past 12 years as a manager of one team and an assistant manager of another. Sue attended our 2007 Presentation Evening where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers when it was thought she had overcome her illness. However she sadly developed further problems and died two days after our 2008 Presentation Evening at the age of just 50. Our condolences are conveyed to Keith, son David who played all his junior football at the YMCA, and daughter Kelly who helped to run our Seafield Rd cafe 8 years ago.
