Key news and reports: MIXED WEEKEND FOR YMCA

9s STAY TOP

12s MAKE PROGRESS IN COUNTY CUP WITHOUT PLAYING--16s BEATEN BY LAST-GASP GOAL BUT EASY WIN FOR 14s---JOYNER HAT TRICK EARNS A POINT FOR 10s.. 9s STAY TOPIn the space of a week the weather went from scorching to shivering. The previous weekend was like summer with lovely warm sunshine and no wind but it was overcast and blustery this weekend and not at all pleasant for watching or playing football. On the Saturday our 9s maintained their 100% record against Staining at Seafield although we left it late in the A game to keep our run going. We were heading for a goalless draw until a Liam Docherty strike in the last couple of minutes gave us a 1-0 victory. There were no such problems in the B game though where two goals apiece from Harry Fisher, George Wyatt and Jack Taylor  helped us to a 7-0 win. Over at Staining our 10s fought back from a 0-2 deficit in the A game to earn a 3-3 draw, Laurence Joyner completing his hat trick with a last-minute spot kick. We then coasted to a 9-0 B game victory, Dan Hood and Marcus Wall both notching hat tricks and Ryan Faulkner a pair.
Just the one game at cold and windy Seafield on the Sunday afternoon, our 11s comfortably beating last season’s champions Lytham Juniors for the 2nd time inside a month, this time by a 4-0 scoreline. It would have been even more unpleasant at Fleetwood Town where we had two teams in action. A double strike by Ben Proctor helped our 14s to a 7-0 rout of the home team but our 16s were beaten 2-1, Town grabbing the winner with virtually the last kick of the game after a Yiannis Verenakis spot kick had brought us level. Our 11s girls were beaten 2-0 at home in the morning by a very good Blue Star side whilst our Open-Age Girls were outclassed in the 2nd round of the County Cup. Wigan Athletic, two divisions higher than our girls, running out convincing 8-1 winners with Millie Brown notching our only goal.
‘WALK-OVER’ FOR 12s---Our 12s should have entertained Bolton based AFC Brazil in the 3rd round of the Lancs FA Cup but just a couple of days prior to the tie we were informed that our opponents were unable to raise a team so our boys progressed to the 4th round by means of a ‘walk-over’ as it is called.
