Key news and reports: CHRISTMAS JOY FOR YMCA

OSCAR'S HAT TRICK KEEPS 9s CLEAR AT THE TOP

In the last games before the Christmas break we had four teams we had in action and all came out on top to make it and excellent end to the calendar year for the YMCA. It was a cold, blustery and drizzly weekend, far from traditional Christmas weather, and some games were washed out in both the Poulton Primary 7-A-Side league on the Saturday and the Sunday Youth League. On the Sunday our 11s came away from Cottam Hall with a fine 6-1 victory against Poulton Youth, Josh Clayton and Chris Clinch both scoring twice. In a local derby at Park View Rd our 12s were seemingly coasting to victory over Lytham Juniors when, helped by a double strike by skipper Carl Kennedy, we were 4-1 ahead. The home side though showed commendable spirit and with a couple of late goals pulled the score back to 4-3 but we managed to hold on for victory. At Seafield, our 14s produced an impressive team display against a strong Thornton outfit and we ran out quite easy 4-0 winners, Ben Proctor netting twice with spectacular long-range efforts. This result meant that our boys took a 100% league record into the New Year.
There was a top-table at Seafield on the Saturday when our 9s entertained Spirit Of Youth. We were top of table and Spirit were second and we retained top-spot by taking four of the six points at stake. A hat trick by Oscar O’Neill gave us an excellent 3-0 A game win and in the B game we went 2-0 ahead. However, the visitors fought back to earn a 2-2 draw which was a fair result to a highly entertaining encounter. Our 10s’ game at Fleetwood Gym was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and our 18s County Cup frustrations continued. Their 4th round tie against Charnock Richard was called off three times before we finally played and beat them. The quarter finals at Burscough scheduled for this weekend though was washed also washed out.
