VICTORY AFTER BEING THREE TIMES BEHIND
It was mixed weather and mixed results for the YMCA on this first weekend of October. Saturday was awful with a gale force wind and heavy squally showers sweeping across the Fylde Coast but in contrast, the wind dropped on the Sunday and the sun shone all day. Two of our teams were in County Cup action on the Sunday and both progressed. Our 15s travelled to Bury to take on Seedfield Sports Club in a 2nd round tie and what a thriller this turned out to be. We trailed three times and levelled three times before grabbing a late goal to clinch a memorable 4-3 victory. At Seafield our 13s took on Preston based Walton West End in a 3rd round tie and after taking an early lead the gutsy visitors levelled. However, we seemed to get stronger as the game went on and we finished up 5-1 winners, Dave Cartmell and Jack Crawford both netting twice.
There were three other games at Seafield on this lovely autumn day. Our 11s were involved in a topsy-turvy encounter with Fleetwood Town and after we had conceded a goal in the very first minute we went 3-1 ahead. The visitors fought back well though and it was 3-3 at half time but we netted five spectacular goals in the 2nd half to run out 8-3 winners. Ryan White bagged a hat trick with Joel Raines and Jordan Kilgallon scoring two apiece. Our 15s Girls recorded an excellent 6-1 win over Fleetwood Town, Jessica Omassoli and Ella Cooper both notching pairs but our 12s girls lost 3-1 to Mill Hill despite Olivia Hooper putting us ahead just after half time. Our 10s girls went down 5-1 at Rishton but the scoreline didn’t really do justice to the efforts of our girls, Rachael Houghton scoring our goal.7-A-SIDEOur 10s could have gone joint top of the table with a maximum points haul at home to Fleetwood Town in atrocious weather at Seafield but we only managed four points. Goals from Harry Fisher and Harry Saga edged us a 2-1 A game win after Town had taken the lead but we were held to a 1-1 draw in the B game, a Bradley Jones equaliser earning us a point. At Fleetwood Town our 9s found the home side too strong and we were beaten 5-1 and 6-1, Nathan Wood and Josh Fletcher netting our consolations.
