GREAT GAMES AT SHIVERING SEAFIELD

I’ve experienced some cold weekends at Seafield Rd over the years but I have to say that I can’t ever remember a colder one than this, particularly on the Sunday. The Met Office did warn us that that a trough of freezing weather from Russia was to hit the UK and how right they were. Mind you, there were some great games at Seafield to help take some of the chill away including a top-of-the table clash between our 12s and South Shore. The two teams had fought out a 1-1 draw just a few weeks before and this one had exactly the same outcome. Jack Crawford put us ahead before the break, Shore levelled in the 2nd half and we missed a spot kick in the closing minutes which would have given us a win I think we just deserved. Our 14s maintained their 100% record with a superb 4-1 win over high-riding Poulton Youth with Ryan Allan bagging a hat. Meanwhile our 16s found themselves 0-2 behind to Wyre Thornton before fighting back to earn a 2-2 draw with goals by Oscar Rowley and Josh Verenakis. Our 11s were at Fishers Field and came away with an excellent 6-1 victory, Chris Clinch notching a pair. On the Saturday our 9s maintained their clear lead at the top of the table with 7-0 and 1-0 wins over Warton Typhoons with Charles Shaw, James Allum and Rohan Brow all netting two apiece. Our 10s also took maximum points at Spirit Of Youth with 4-0 and 2-1 victories, Laurence Joyner on target twice. It was very successful weekend for our girls’ teams as well as all three recorded victories. At Seafield Our 14s saw off title rivals Fleetwood Town 3-0 and also at home, our 11s swamped Myerscough 11-1 helped by hat tricks by Georgia Rose and Hanna Wright. Our open-age ladies team overcame an early deficit at Bolton Wanderers to clinch a 3-2 victory with Beth Rogerson netting twice and Becky Bridgwater brilliantly saving a penalty.     Footnote:  The freezing blast from Russia really kicked-in the following day when heavy snowfalls hit much of the country causing chaos on the roads. We even had a couple of hours of settling snow here during late afternoon but of course it didn’t take long to disappear.
