Key news and reports: 28th FEBRUARY / 1st MARCH

GREAT FIGHTBACK BY GIRLS

As March arrived this wasn’t a bad weekend weather wise, a chilly breeze but two quite sunny days. It wasn’t a great start to the new month for our 11s though as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town, a result which was a setback to our title ambitions. It was a rather disjointed performance by our boys so we couldn’t really complain about this result. Our 16s also lost 2-0 at Kirkham but our 14s retained top spot in the table with a 5-0 victory at Spirit Of Youth.
Sunday was a better day for our female teams though. At Seafield our 11s Girls faced Pendle Forest whom we’d never beaten previously and we were 2-1 down in this one as well before two goals apiece by Olivia Hooper and Laurel North gave us a great 4-2 victory. Our 14s Girls also had a superb win at Seafield, comfortably beating academy outfit Bromley Cross 3-0. Our Open Age Ladies though suffered a title setback by being held to a 4-4 draw at bottom club Bury.
It was a mixed Saturday for our 7-a-side teams on the last day of February. Our 9s had two narrow 1-0 victories over Blackpool Rangers at Seafield, Oscar O’Neil and Harry Fisher notching the all important goals to keep us at the top of the table. Meanwhile, over at Common Edge a double strike by Laurence Joyner helped us to a 4-0 A game victory against AFC Blackpool but we had to settle for 1-1 draw in the B contest, Ryan White bagging an equaliser in a disappointing team display from our boys.
