Key news and reports: 26/27 SEPTEMBER

BIG COUNTY CUP WINS

This was another dry and bright weekend as September drew to a close, and I don’t think we had a game during this first month of the season when the weather was any different. Three of our teams were in County Cup action at Seafield Rd. Our 15s hosted Preston based Real Mahad in a re-arranged 1st round tie after our opponents were granted a postponement on the original date because of ‘Ramadam’. Our boys proved far too superior and we romped through 18-0, Adam Stephenson and Ryan Allan bagging four goals apiece. On the next pitch at our 12s were also coasting through to the 3rd round against Wigan outfit Hindley Cougars, Dave Cartmell and Sam Warburton both on target twice in our 7-0 victory. Our 15s Girls though, playing in the Under 16s County Cup 1st round, found their older opponents just too physically strong and we were well beaten 11-2. Just down the road at the Lytham Academy our 11s produced a superb team performance against a Lytham Junior Maroons side who were boasting a 100% record and had gone through the previous season in the PDP Under 10 League unbeaten. Hat tricks from Ryan White and Kai Leyland gave us a brilliant 6-3 victory. Our 12s Girls came away from Haslingden with a fine 4-0 victory, all the goals coming in the first half with Olivia Hooper netting twice. GREAT FIGHT BACK BY 10s EARNS SHARE OF THE POINTS
In 7-a-side soccer on the Saturday our 10s travelled to top-of-the-table Foxhall where we lost the A game 3-1. The home side appeared to be heading for another 3 points in the B game as well when they went 2-0 ahead in the opening minutes. However, our boys fought back brilliantly to pull off a thrilling 3-2 victory to go home with a share of the spoils, Bradley Jones netting two of our goals. At Seafield our 9s also shared the points against Foxhall. We lost the A game 3-0 but with a double strike by the outstanding Max Older we emerged 2-1 winners of the B game. At Ansdell Arena our 8s took on Layton Juniors. We lost the A game 1-0 but we were thwarted numerous times by some brilliant goalkeeping. We made amends in the B contest though, Jack Doyle weighing in with a couple of goals in a 6-0 victory.
