BATTLING 13s REACH COUNTY CUP FINAL

For the first weekend since early December a full programme of fixtures finally went ahead following the atrocious winter weather and it was a memorable weekend for the YMCA, particularly for our 13s. It’s a bit of a daunting prospect having to travel to Greater Manchester on a cold and wet Sunday morning to play in a County Cup semi final against a top outfit which our opponents Walshaw Sports Club certainly are. Our boys seemed to rise to the challenge though and we got off to a flyer by taking an early lead but with less than 10 remaining we found ourselves 2-4 behind. However, we staged a stunning fight-back and scored twice more to level the scores sending the tie into extra time. Our remarkable revival was completed when we grabbed another goal to clinch a superb 5-4 victory and a place in the final of this prestigious competition. Although all our boys were outstanding throughout, Aiden Atchison was a special hero by bagging four of our goals.
It was Hogan Cup 1st round action for our other three Sunday Youth League sides and all went through comfortably, and without conceding a goal between them. At Seafield a hat trick by Ryan Riley helped our 15s to beat high-riding Poulton Youth 7-0 whilst a double strike by Dave Cartmell was the feature of our 12s’ 6-0 defeat of FC Rangers. Meanwhile over at Bispham our 11s were notching up a fine 6-0 victory also against Blackpool Rangers with Jordan Kilgallon and Ryan Faulkner both hitting pairs.7-A-SIDENEIGHBOURS END 10s’ CUP HOPES IN REPLAYFollowing two 1-1 draws the previous week in the PDPL’s Coulton Cup 1st round Lytham Juniors came to Seafield on a foggy Saturday morning for the replay and went home 3-1 aggregate winners. An Oscar O’Neil strike earned us a 1-1 draw in the A game but the visitors notched up a 2-0 B game victory to book their place in the next round. In the league our 9s came away from South Shore with 2-1 and 6-0 wins to make it a good start to 2010 for our boys. Keleb Chikities capped an excellent performance with a hat trick. Our 8s took on Spirit Of Youth at Ansdell Arena where we won 5-2 in the A game, Ewan McCauley and Jacob Taylor both scoring twice before a thrilling B game ended in a 5-5 draw.  GIRLSIt was a mixed return to action for our Girls Teams this weekend. Our 15s chalked up a fine 2-1 victory away at Academy Juniors, Jessica Omassoli scoring both goals but our 12s were well beaten 6-1 at Mill Hill, Emily Lancashire notching our consolation goal. Our Open Age Ladies also went down, 5-2 at home to Accrington.
