Key news and reports: 18s WIN ANOTHER CUP FINAL
14s COME OUT ON TOP IN TOP-TABLE DERBY CLASH
April had arrived and in the first couple of days of the new month our club had some great cup successes. Just four weeks after winning the Lancs FA’s County Cup Final our 18s won the Preston LEP League’s Youth Cup in the final played at Bamber Bridge FC. In a hard fought contest a goal in each half gave us a 2-0 victory over Euxton Villa. On the same night our 12s clinched a place in the Hogan Cup Final with a comfortable 4-0 semi final victory over Kirkham at Stanley Park Arena.
As the season approached its conclusion there was a fascinating situation in the BDYFL’s Under 14 Section. YMCA and Lytham Juniors both had 100% records with the two teams having to meet each other twice inside the space of 5 days. The first of these two vital clashes was on the Thursday evening of this particular week at Seafield Rd, and a beautiful spring evening it was as well. We led 1-0 at the break, Ryan Riley capitalising on a defensive error, and Riley bagged two more goals in the 2nd half to give us a crucial 3-0 victory. It was a highly competitive and feisty encounter, only to be expected in a local derby with so much at stake, and Lytham may have felt that the scoreline flattered us a little. However, there was no doubt we were the better team on the night with all our boys displaying totally committed attitudes throughout.
