UNLUCKY 15s GO OUT OF COUNTY CUP
Despite another week of gales and rain most games did go ahead this weekend but our 9s’ fixture at Poulton Youth was one of the few which didn’t on the Saturday. However at Seafield our 10s retained top-spot in the table by collecting a maximum 6 points against Poulton. Charles Shaw hit a brace in a 4-2 A game win with a Rohan Brow strike proving the winner in a 1-0 B game success.
On a chilly but sunny Sunday our 15s’ hopes of reaching the Lancs FA’s County Cup competition were ended by Wigan-based Hindley at Seafield, although our boys did put up a very brave display against the odds. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 20th minute we took the lead twice through Ryan Riley and Adam Stephenson but after playing so long with a man short we understandably tired towards the end and the visitors scored twice more to go home 3-2 winners. Our 12s though maintained their winning ways with a 7-0 defeat of Blackpool Rangers Blues at Seafield, Chris Clinch weighing-in with a hat trick. Over at Common Edge though our 12s’ 100% record was ended by Spirit Of Youth. Defensive errors gifted the home side with a 3-1 interval lead and although we laid siege to Spirit’s goal and created at least 20 chances in the 2nd half our only reward was a late goal and we went down 3-2. Meanwhile, at Park View Rd a double strike by Kai Leyland helped our 11s to a 6-1 defeat of neighbours Lytham Juniors Blues.
GIRLS IN 6-GOAL THRILLERThere were hard fought tussles as well in girls’ games on the Sunday. At Seafield Our 10s were left still searching for their first win after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Rishton despite us having most of the play. After a goalless 1st half our 12s found themselves trailing 0-2 early in the 2nd half against Mill Hill. A superbly taken hat trick by Oliver Hooper though then put us 3-2 ahead but the visitors snatched a 3-3 draw with a late equaliser. Our Open age Ladies put up a brave fight against a much more experienced Curzon Ashton side at Mythop Rd. We led 3-2 at one stage before eventually going down 6-3.
