Key news and reports: 13/14 DECEMBER

14s KEEP 100% RECORD INTACT

December was proving to be a very cold month, the first 2 weeks being the coldest for many years, but it was the return of rain which caused problems this weekend. Saturday was simply awful with heavy rain falling throughout the day which caused many pitches to become waterlogged and the games involving our 11s and 12s, both due to play at Fleetwood, were both washed out.  Sunday though was a lovely day after early morning mist had cleared and at Seafield our 18s took on Charnock Richard in the Lancs FA cup quarter finals. This tie had been postponed three times already because of unfit pitches but there was no danger of this 4th attempt of not going ahead. The visitors only had 10 players due to illness and injury and were further reduced to nine for the 2nd half due to another injury. Although our boys shouldn’t really have had a problem under these circumstances we somehow struggled. Goals by Max Rothwell and Dan Hartley gave us a 2-0 lead but Charnock showed admirable spirit and pulled a goal back but we managed to hold to a 2-1 win. Our 16s could only muster up a bare eleven players in the afternoon for the visit of high-riding Poulton Youth and although our boys produced a gutsy display we went down 2-0. No such problems for our 14s though at Blackpool Rd North against neighbours St Annes FC where we comfortably kept our 100% record intact with an 8-0 victory, Robbie Hunter and Jordan Bishop both bagging pairs.
On the Saturday there was no game for 10s due to opponents Layton Juniors being badly hit by illness but our 9s were in action against the Layton club at Boundary Park. Hat tricks by Rohan Brow and Oscar O’Neill helped us to a  7-0 A game victory and maximum points were secured by a 3-0 B game win. These were excellent wins in quite appalling weather and I doubt that anybody was sad to hear the final whistle.
