Key news and reports: 12/13 DECEMBER

12s JOIN 13s IN COUNTY CUP SEMIS

At last the rain disappeared to leave us with a cold but pleasantly sunny weekend and YMCA history was created. After our 13s had clinched their place the previous week in the Lancs FA Cup our in the 12s achieved the same feat with a hard fought 2-1 quarter final win over Blackburn-based Lammack Juniors at Seafield. This made it the first time ever that two YMCA teams had clinched County Cup semi finals places in one season. A heavy overnight frost melted in time for this lunchtime kick off and it was obvious from the start that the visitors were more than a useful side. Midway through the 1st half though we snatched the lead with a Chris Clinch strike and our lead was doubled 10 minutes into the 2nd half with a looping header from Kit Gregory. However, it was tense finish when Lammack pulled a goal back 7 minutes from time. We survived a few hairy moments in those closing minutes but our boys hung on for victory. Over at Fishers Field that day a double strike by Laurence Joyner helped our 11s to a 6-0 win over Foxhall whilst at Common Edge Rd our 15s came back from a 2-1 half time deficit to beat AFC Blackpool 6-2, Ryan Allan weighing-in with a hat trick. In a Coulton Cup Prelim tie the previous day at Seafield our 10s overcame BJFF on a 2-0 aggregate. The A game ended goalless before goals from Isaac Eastham and Harry Sagar earned us a 2-0 B game victory
FOUR GOALS FOR AMASSOLI  IN GIRLS’ TOP-TABLE VICTORYIt wasn’t a good day out at the seaside for Blackburn club Lammack Juniors who had two of their teams playing at Seafield on this Sunday. As well their under 12s being defeated in the County Cup by our boys their Under 15s Girls met their match against our girls in a top-table clash and also went home beaten. YMCA’s Jessica Amassoli produced a clinical display of finishing by claiming all our goals in a great 4-1 victory. Our 10s Girls though suffered a 2-0 home defeat by Rishton despite being on top for most of the game.
